A Hero's Journey

Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children

I have to say, I tend to read reviews for books before I buy them.  I don't do this to make up my mind, but to simply make fun of the idiots when they turn out to be so wrong. I'm cruel. I know it. This little gem was WONDERFUL! I read several complaints about how the pictures are wonderful (omg they are!), but that is all. They couldn't have been more wrong about the story.

This is a fantastical story about children with extraordinary gifts. There is fantasy, adventure, heart-felt connections, and not a stitch of horrible. I will once again leave you to read the synopsis at the above link and not put you to sleep by repeating it

I am going to tell you what the author says about the photos at the end of the novel.  All the included photos are real and not particarly connected to one another.  They are all found by these wonderful people looking at flea markets for these lost treasures. They were put together into the story so that after a bit of reading you begin to anticipate the picture that is sure to follow.

I have often looked at photos of people I didn't know and made-up lives for them in my imagination.  That might be the writer in me (or the nutter), but it is something I have always done.  Where did they live? When did they die? Why was this picture taken? It reminds me of the modern version that involves a website where you can post found cameras or photos so that they might find their homes.

The book made me really begin to wonder what will people think of our pictures in a hundred years.  Will family sit down and say "oh, that's so and so he was a loon but made great tacos"?

In a round about way, I'm saying Read This Book! You will love it.  Trust me. After you are done go back and look at the photos and wonder what they really were intended for.

2 Pentacles       Only stubborness kept me reading
1 Pentacle        Ack! I couldn't even finish it.

The Everafter Amy Huntley

The Everafter Amy Huntley

I was surprised at the concept of this book. If you click the link it will take you to the synopsis, so I won't bore you with that. Understanding death is something I'm sure most humans wish they could master.  I'm not any different in that aspect.  The unknown is terrifying to creatures that label and order their world. The Everafter creates an existence that is not heaven in the traditional sense.  The story concept takes some getting used to, yet I was pulled along and struggled to understand just as the protagonist does. There was a need for resolution throughout the book that did not disappoint at the end. I would recommend this book for a quick read ( I read it almost totally straight in two hours) and for an alternative view into life after death.

Started this pretty blanket just for me
It is called Flowers in a row and can be found if you follow the link to the Red Heart website.
You must make an account (it's free people) to download the PDF pattern.
It is turning out so adorable!
This is the first project I've done especially for me.
I am using Red Heart Super Saver white, Loops and Threads Impeccable in Forest and in Fresh Lilac Ombre.

This pattern goes really fast because of the change in stitch for each color.  I know I have a hard time with throws that have the same stitch over and over.

I cannot wait to post the finished project!

Kyleigh's Pink Mist Hat

Hot off my hook! Made this little hat for my niece Kyleigh. She LOVES pink. It turned out so cute that my Ade is begging for a blue and green one. Used a few different patterns to whip this one up. Along the way it looked more like a crown then a hat. That might be an idea in the making. Happy Birthday Kyleigh!

Orange Dream Bag

Hot off the hook! Made this summery bag for my niece Carrie's birthday. It turned out longer then I thought it would but it's so bright and summery I love it.
I've been busy learning to coupon for the last few weeks that I've neglected my crafting. I wonder if I am the only one that falls in love with an art form or a hobby, only to find another one just as quickly.
This will be a busy summer for me. I want to read down my HUGE "to be read" pile, I want to make gifts for my family and friends, I want to learn to knit, and I want to conquer the coupon world (LOL).

Mulberry Bag

Made this pretty bag for my niece Lisa. I got the original pattern off of Raverly though I modified it a bit. You can't really tell bet the scalloped shell part I added a glitter yarn to make it bling a bit.
It is not lined I just stuffed some white bags into it to show the stitching ( I was so proud of how it turned out)

Next project is a hat for my niece Kyleigh....pink sparkled flowers I think.

So this is the first "set" I have made. I love it. It is a 0-3 month pinafore dress and a ripple stroller blanket. I love this little dress pattern. It was given to me by a fellow "hooker" but I have seen similar patterns on Raverly listed as an angel dress or something like that. Sweet sweet dress. I haven't listed this one to sell yet but if you are interested in the set let me know.
Been busy these last two weeks. My mom came to visit, soccer tourney's for Ade and her dance recital, plus it is finals week and I graduate on Saturday......ugh! I know I'm not making everyone happy right now, but they are just going to have to wait their turn..... I plan on Hooking all the time over the summer so keep up with what I do ~Blessed Be~
